Remember those Apple Jacks commercials that used to come on during Saturday morning commercials? No? Allow me to jumpstart your memory.
Attention Indianapolis-area readers:
KEEP A WATCHFUL EYE ON YOUR SUGAR! GUARD ALL FREESTANDING FOOD!
Around 9:50 this morning I was enjoying some Saturday morning television. Relaxing with my wife and sister-in-law, we were suddenly disturbed by a rap tap tapping at the window. We turned to the sliding glass door and noticed a large bug slamming itself into the door over and over again.
This thing was substantial. We have wasps around, so I didn’t think too much of the critter at first. Then it rested upon the glass, tired from all the continuous flying and slamming action. It was no wasp…
It was the biggest fly that I had ever seen!
It was a fearless fly, allowing me to take a few up close and personal pics before flying away in search of nearby dog feces. As you can see from the visual evidence, the fly was as long as my index finger is wide!
Keep watch, Indianapolis!
Chris (from Hadley’s Happenings) and I went on a photo shoot last Thursday down at the new Lucas Oil Stadium. We will use these photos at work until the stadium gets fully landscaped. Some of these photos will be used in an upcoming issue of Sports Business Journal!

Last week Chris and I ventured out to the Old Spaghetti Factory for lunch. We were dazzled by the dessert menu’s headliner: “The Masterpiece Shake.” It was scrumptiously described as:
Featuring OREO cookie crumbles, sweet chocolate syrup and soft serve ice cream, all whipped together 3.75
I was initially pleased upon receiving the treat. It had a nicely formed whipped cream top, and was sprinkled with OREO dust. So far, so good.
That’s until I tried sipping my straw. Nothing came up. The straw kept jamming, and I was losing my patience.
Let me take you back to the early to mid-90’s. I was young elementary school student primarily preoccupied with two things:
Preface - A Lunchtime Thought
A few weeks ago some co-workers and I were dining at Indianapolis’ finest establishment: the Holt Road McDonald’s. Okay, perhaps not the finest. Okay, perhaps you can liken the people that frequent this McDonald’s to the band of misfit aliens found in that Star Wars cantina scene. Definitely a great people watching location, nonetheless. But this is all beside the point.
Lunchtime with the co-workers can best be described as a rewarding, philosophical journey with friends. I was enjoying a bite of cheeseburger when it hit me: It must suck to be Santa Claus. Allow me to divulge the reasons, as I did with my co-workers…

Preface: Elementary Success
After the success of the last Kidz Korner, how can I not divulge more about the old elementary school days? Today I’ll share memories regarding one of the quintessential, pure gravy, experiences of K-6: The Book Fair!

Preface: My Sugar Bias
I love sugar. Always have, always will. As I was once told by the middle-aged manager of a liquor store, upon asking for his sweetest wine, I’m “part of the Pepsi generation.” Apparently, as I grow older, and grumpier, I’ll transition to loving the driest of red wines!
As a child I had no ills about slamming a Mountain Dew before hitting the hay. Milk and cookies? Bah! I’ll have a Coke with those chocolate chip confections, ma’am!
